Who is this for?
The Get Building SDA initiative is for people looking to build, invest in or live in Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA).
Currently, there is a huge opportunity for developers and investors to have a positive social impact in a financially sustainable way. But SDA represents a leap into the unknown for many people.
SDA payments from the NDIS are based on a market return – they are intended to provide returns that stimulate the development of new, innovative and high quality housing for people with high and complex support needs.
Only a fraction of the SDA that is needed across Australia has been built. We estimate that Australia needs more than 12,000 new SDA places to meet demand from people with very high support needs who will receive an NDIS SDA payment.
The Get Building SDA initiative starts in NSW with the ambitious target of getting 75 new SDA builds underway by 2020.
How you can get building…
- Attend one of 14 information sessions being held across NSW, which will provide you with the tools and networks you need to start building SDA
- Access essential SDA resources from the Get Building SDA website
- Ask about expert assistance that is being provided to upskill people who are committed to building SDA, but need extra help
- Get along to one of five SDA Provider Showcases, that will be held in NSW to connect housing providers and support providers with potential tenants
How is it funded?
Get Building SDA is a joint initiative between the Summer Foundation and Disability Services Consulting, with funding support from the NSW Department of Industry under the Smart, Skilled and Hired: Disability Sector Scale Up program.
